Jerez (or fully Jerez de la Frontera) is a gorgeous little Spanish city located south of Seville in the Andalusia region of Spain. The city is famous for many things including Sherry production and even equestrian schools.
Jerez is the perfect place to take advantage of fully guided tours. No visit to Jerez would be complete without sampling its famous sherry. From the dry and crisp Fino to the sweet and nutty Pedro Ximénez, you have to try one whilst you are there. You can tour through the heart of Jerez's sherry industry by visiting some of the iconic bodegas. Many let you explore the underground cellars, learn about the traditional sherry-making process, and indulge in a tasting session.
Don't miss Bodegas Tio Pepe, Bodegas González Byass, and Bodegas Lustau. Be sure to pair your Sherry sample with a local tapas dish from one of the many bars or bodeguitas. We tried Restaurante El Gallo Azul and it was delicious!
Like many spanish cities, Jerez has maintained the stunning moorish architecture that is present across southern Spain. This architecture is easily witnessed across the city especially at Alcázar de Jerez and the Cathedral. Both have intricate gardens, courtyards, and chambers, and allow visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the city.
Another aspect of the spanish lifestyle that Jerez maintains is the value of markets. The Plaza del Mercado. Make sure to immerse yourself in the local culture at this bustling market square and browse through the stalls selling fresh produce, artisanal goods, and souvenirs.
Jerez is the birthplace of the prestigious Carthusian horse breed, a link that dates back to the 15th century. Horses are as much a part of Andalusia as flamenco and sherry. The history of horses in Jerez began as early as 720 BC. In the north of Jerez de la Frontera lies the "Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre" riding school. The famous school was founded in 1973 and 14 years later, it was officially recognised by the King of Spain as a Royal Spanish Riding School. It is home to the noblest Spanish horses, which are trained for the famous sensational dressage shows. The "Museo del Enganche" is also worth seeing, where visitors can gain a closer insight into the history of the riding school as well as horse breeding in Andalusia - however there's no betting on these ones!
Most cities in Spain like a fiesta, however Jerez loves a celebration with its culmination being Festival de Jerez. It usually takes place in February/March and takes place across several days. Often described as "flamenco and Spanish dance", the central theme of the Festival is dance. As well as offering a showcase for this Spanish tradition, the festival also previews innovative creations and creative artists exploring new vibes and expressive avenues for flamenco and tradition in the 21st century. This annual flamenco festival attracts world-class artists and flamenco enthusiasts from around the world and is the best place to experience the passion and energy of flamenco performances in a variety of venues. Also, The Feria del Caballo (Horse Fair) is a celebration of Jerez's equestrian heritage. Enjoy horse shows, flamenco performances, bullfights, and lively street parties. We stayed in the Hotel Jerez and Spa and it was really nice with all of the facilities you need and within walking distance to everywhere in Jerez.

The currency of Spain is the Euro. You can change money when you arrive or withdraw from ATMs, but be aware of high conversion fees! Some ATMs may charge you to withdraw money, even if your bank doesn't. It's always best to pay in local currency, but we had no issues paying by card in Jerez.

The official language of Spain is Spanish, but English is spoken and understood in Jerez. It's always polite to learn a few phrases, though!
What is the weather like in Jerez?
Jerez is in the very South of Spain so it's pretty warm all year around. When we visited in June it was getting up to 40° Celsius. Here's the average high / low temperatures for each season:

Winter: 16°C / 7°C
